1. Release notes
----------------

Version 2.1.0.1:
HotFix:
   Maximun Data Rate is 62500.


Version 2.x.x.x:
   This is the first version compatible with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 
   systems.
   It is specifically designed for GemPC430 firmware version 1.04.
    * remove debug code from release build.
    * Ajustable TimeOut IOCTL.
    * handle Case 4 with 256 data bytes
   It fixes some problems with:
    * correct power manager problem with Windows 98.
    * Fix AssertURBExpectedLength by USB Driver Verifier.
    * Handled Zero-Length usb packet by firmware.
    * refresh .inf file


Version 2.0.1 (03/2001):
   It is specifically designed for GemPC430 firmware version 1.04.
   Change name for GemUSB to avoid conflit with GrClass include in Windows Server 2003.
   It provides:
    * Add Amex 435 reader support (1.3.4)
    * Adaptation for Multiple Hardware ID (1.3.6)
    * Include update from GemUSB driver in Windows Server 2003 (1.4.0)
   It fixes some problems with:
    * Reader removal / insertion when a smart card is present (1.4.0)
    * Fix for Sclumberger Crytoflex 8k mask2 cards (1.3.11).
    * Fix Amex T0 Get Response APD problem report (1.3.9)



Version 1.3.3 (GrClass.sys):
   It is specifically designed for GemPC430 firmware version 1.04.
   Initial USB Smart card driver for Windows 2000 and Windows 98.


2. Pre-Requisites
-----------------

To be usable, this installation requires that the Microsoft Smart Card 
Manager is started.


FOR WINDOWS Server 2003:
-----------------------
Note: All Microsoft Smart Card Manager components are already 
installed with Windows Server 2003. 
DO NOT INSTALL THE SCBASE.EXE OR SMCLIB.EXE COMPONENTS even though 
they might be part of this distribution.

To check the status of the Microsoft Smart Card Manager:
   * Start the Computer Management Console by right-clicking on the 
   "My Computer" desktop icon and pick the "Manage" item in the menu,
   * Select and open the "Services and Application" group in the list,
   * Click on the "Services" item,
   * Double-click on the "Smart Card" service.
   * The service status should be "Started" 
   * The StartUp Type should be "Automatic" 

   If this is not the case,
   * Choose "Automatic" in the "Startup Type" drop-down list, then
   * Click on <Apply> button to start the service.

   You can now close the Computer Management Console.

In the rest of this file, we assume that you know how to start the
Device Manager. To access to this software:
   * Right-click on the "My Computer" desktop icon and pick the 
   "Properties" item in the menu.
   * Select the "Hardware" tab and click on the "Device Manager..."
   button

4. Smart Card Interface driver use
-----------------------------------

   4.1. Driver installation

      This USB device is Plug and play; you can plug it at any moment.


      4.1.1. Installation


	Once device is plug, this is first time Windows will
	show a dialogue box with the Found new hardware detect.
	Click <Next> on the Hardware Wizard windows.
	Select "Search for the best driver for your device (recommended)"
        Then click <Next>.

	Check box the Specify a location then click <Next>.
	Browse were all the files drivers for the Gemplus GemPC430 are located.
        
	The wizard found a driver for the following device:
	VISA Usb Smart Card Reader GCR432, Click <Next>

	The required files are copied to your computer and
        the device is properly configured.

	Click <Finish> to close the Hardware Wizard.


	INSTALLATION FOR WINDOWS Server 2003 :

        As Windows Server 2003 come with a limited version of
        this driver, (GrClass.sys Version 5.1.2600.0)
        installation should be done in two phases.
        The first one installs the default driver,
        the second one updates the system with this new driver.
 
        1- Install the default driver:
        Connect your reader as shown on the Reader carton.
        Wait for Windows to install the default device driver.

        2- Update the system:
        Right-click on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop,
        Choose "Properties" and select the "Hardware" tab,
        Press the <Device Manager> button,
        Select the "Smart card readers" group,
        Double-click on "GEMPLUS GemPC430 USB Smart card Reader"
        Select the "Driver" tab
        Click on <Update Driver>

	*** If your file driver are located in a local drive,
        Insert the floppy or CD immediatly and click on <Next>.

        The Wizard is ready to install the driver, click <Next>.
        Click <Finish> to close the Microsoft Device Driver Wizard.
	
	ELSE,
       
        select Install from a list or a specific location (Advanced)
        then click <Next>

        Browse to the file location by click on Browse button,
        click <Next> after path found.
        The Wizard is ready to install the driver, click <Next>.
        Click <Finish> to close the Microsoft Device Driver Wizard.


      4.1.2. Check your installation

         Open the Device Manager.
         Double-click on "GEMPLUS GemPC430 USB Smart card Reader"
         in the "Smart card readers" group
         Select the "Driver" tab
	 Check that the "Driver version" is 2.1.0.0.

     
   
   4.2. Driver update

      4.2.1. Update

         Right-Click on "My Computer" icon on the desktop,
         Choose "properties" and select the "Hardware" tab,
         Press the <Device Manager> button,
         Select the "Smart Card Reader" group,
         Double-click on "GEMPLUS GemPC430 USB Smart card Reader"
         Select the "Driver" tab
         Click on <Update Driver>
         Click <Next>
         Select "Display a list of the known drivers for this device 
         so that I can choose a specific driver", and click <Next>
         Click <Have Disk...>
         Browse to the driver files location (the "driver" directory
         within the folder where you unpacked the archive) and 
         click <OK>
         Select "GEMPLUS GemPC430 USB Smart card Reader", and click <Next>
         The Wizard is ready to install the driver, click <Next>.
         Click <Finish> to close the Microsoft Device Driver Wizard.

	 NOTE: For WINDOWS Server 2003, You have to insert removabled media
         Floppy or CD before start the Update driver procedure.

      4.2.2. Check your update

         Open the Device Manager.
         Double-click on "GEMPLUS GemPC430 USB Smart card Reader"
         in the "Smart card readers" group
         Select the "Driver" tab
	 Check that the "Driver version" is 2.1.0.0.

     

   4.3. Driver removal

      4.3.1. Remove

         Right-Click on "My Computer" icon on the desktop,
         Choose "properties" and select the "Hardware" tab,
         Press the <Device Manager> button,
         Select the "Smart Card Readers" group,
         Double-click on "GEMPLUS GemPC430 USB Smart card Reader"
         Click on the "Uninstall" button in the toolbar, or select the
	 "Uninstall..." item from the "Actions" menu.


      4.3.2. check the removal
         
         Right-Click on "My Computer" icon on the desktop,
         Choose "properties" and select the "Hardware" tab,
         Press the <Device Manager> button,
         Select the "Smart Card Readers" group,
         Verify that no "GEMPLUS GemPC430 USB Smart card Reader" 
         Appears any longer.


5 - User notes (known deviations)
---------------------------------

FOR WINDOWS Server 2003
-----------------------

* If you change the reader plug USB from one port
  to another one or to a USB hub port, the system will 
  ask to provide source disk again.  This append only
  if the first installation was done by floppy or CD.
  Solution: always keep installation files in a local drive.
  


* After uninstall, if you plug device again, Windows
  Keep trace of previous installation.
  If you want to remove trace of previous installation,
  you have to search in "%WINDIR%\inf" directory file begin
  with oemXX.inf and oemXX.pnf.  Check all oemXX.inf, look for
  keyword contains "GEMPLUS GemPC430 USB Smart card Reader"
  Then remove this file and corresponding compile oemxx.pnf.





6. Troubleshooting
-------------------

If the previously described procedure didn't succeed in installing or
updating the driver, please

1- Open the Device Manager, 
   Click on the "Smart card readers" group and
   check the state of the "GEMPLUS GemPC430 USB Smart card Reader".
   If a cross appears, or a Yellow bang "!", select the reader, 
   Click on property in the menu and 
   check the box line "Disable in this material profile" and 
   contact the support.
